Writing your advert & Selling your Bike

Write an advert but be as brief as you can and be honest.List items that will be of interest to the potential buyer but try not to bore them with too much detail.

Detail items which will be of interest to the buyer, mileage, tyres, colour, MOT & Road tax, Service history etc….

Research the value of your bike and be realistic regarding the asking price, if you are not you will not get any interest.

Attach a clear photo, it'll make your advert stand out and you'll get a better response.

It is worth considering having a HPI check carried out on the bike so that potential buyers can see this when they come to see the bike.

Checklist Things you should include in your advert:
  • Colour
  • Condition
  • MOT & road tax (if got them)
  • Key features
  • Colour photograph
  • Number of owners
  • Mileage
  • Service history

Finally, don’t forget that when someone arrives to inspect the bike, it should be clean and tidy

Preparing your vehicle for sale You wouldn't buy a filthy bike so neither will they. The first thing the buyer will notice is the general appearance. Time spent on cleaning will help you get the full asking price. Clean everything, panels, clocks, frame and especially wheels. Give it a good wash and wax (household polish ie. Mr Sheen is best), and don't forget to leave the seat free of polish otherwise you (or your buyer) will slide on to (or in to!) the tank next time you hit the brakes!
